How to start
Start with one applicant, not your whole list. Open an account, turn on the checks you want, and send the link to yourself first, so you see what an applicant sees and what comes back to you. Furnished Finder can keep running underneath the whole time, and nothing there has to be canceled.
Open a test account. It asks for a name, a work email and a password, nothing about your company or your address. In it you can set up and run a screening from end to end: the checks you turn on, what the person being screened is asked for, what your team sees when a result needs a look, and what reaches your own systems. The account is free, it does not expire, and it is not a trial.
In test mode nothing real is checked: you pick the result of each check in advance, and what comes back is made up. It is there to let you walk your own setup end to end for nothing, so it is not free screening and not a sample of our results. Comparing us against the vendor you use today takes real checks, which is what the free credit is for.

Common questions
Switching from Furnished Finder
Do I have to stop using Furnished Finder?
No. Their help center says the tool screens only applicants who hold a valid US Social Security number, and that most of those reports are ready within a few hours. If that covers the people you screen, keep it and send us the ones it will not screen. You pay us only for the checks that run.
How do I move my first applicant over?
Open an account, pick the checks you want in a template, and send that applicant the link. Nothing at Furnished Finder has to be canceled first, and you can run both side by side for as long as you like.
Do my applicants need a Social Security number?
No. We ask for an email address, a phone number, a date of birth and an address. There is no Social Security number field in the applicant journey, and no check we sell takes one as an input.
What does an applicant use instead?
A government-issued document. Identity verification accepts a passport, a driver's license, a national ID card, a residence permit, a visa or a work permit. Watchlist screening and global criminal background run on a name and a date of birth.
Does Checktiv return a credit report or an eviction history?
No, and nothing in our catalog stands in for either. Furnished Finder's report returns a soft credit check they state does not affect the applicant's score, a criminal background check and an eviction history report. Our parent brand, Autohost, lists a credit module of its own, so a credit file comes from them and not from us.
Their article says to ask for bank statements and references. Does that change?
No. That article tells landlords hosting international travelers, or tenants without a US Social Security number, to ask for bank statements from the past three to six months, references from previous landlords or hosts, and proof of current employment. We sell no income or employment verification, no landlord-reference product and no credit product, so all three requests stay yours to make, exactly as they are today.
What does one applicant cost?
You are billed per person screened, for the checks that ran on them. Identity verification is $0.75, watchlist screening $1.00, global criminal background $2.00 and document signing $0.50. US criminal background is $5.00 and needs a US address.
Can I try it before I pay anything?
Yes. Signing up takes no card, and a new account starts with $5 in free credit that lasts 14 days. Test mode runs synthetic verifications that never touch your wallet balance.
Someone books one of my units. What happens next?
A verification is created for that person, with its own link. If your reservation system is one we connect to, the booking creates it and emails them the link without you touching it. If not, you add them in the dashboard and either have us send the email or copy the link and send it the way you already contact guests. It opens in a browser, so there is nothing to install, and you can see the date it expires.
What does the applicant actually do?
They fill in their own name, plus the date of birth and address the checks you turned on need, then photograph a government-issued document and take a selfie if you turned that on. You can add your own questions on one screen, and a document for them to read and sign by typing their name. If they started on a laptop, they can scan a code and finish the photos on their phone.
Do I need a developer to set this up?
No. Choosing which checks run, adding an applicant and sending the link are all done in the dashboard. There is a connector that creates the verification straight from a new booking for the reservation systems we connect to, but none of that is needed to run your first check.
Is a screening the person on the booking, or everyone staying?
A screening is one person, and you pay for the checks that ran on that person. If you want the rest of the party, make one reusable link and send it once: each person who opens it confirms their own email address and becomes their own screening, up to a number of people you set on the link.
What happens when someone does not pass?
Nothing happens to the booking on its own. We do not cancel it, refund it or message the guest about it. A verification that needs a person to look at it goes to a review queue in the dashboard, with what was collected in front of whoever opens it, and they approve or decline it with a reason from a fixed list. A decline sends the applicant a written notice of the decision and how to dispute it.
Where does my data live?
The US and the EU are separate regions, and data for an EU customer stays in the EU one. There is no copying between them, and every applicant record is encrypted at rest under a key held for that one customer.
Is Checktiv enough for a compliance review?
We are SOC 2 Type II certified. The report goes out under an NDA, so ask us for it and we will send it.
